Limits and Restrictions

Minimum characters per post = 10
Maximum characters per post = 10000
Maximum linked images per post (including smilies) = 4
Maximum attachments per post (image or text document) = 4
Maximum attachment file size = 350kb
Maximum image attachment length = 1024 pixels on the longest side
Note, the above attachment limits do not apply for linked images in a post. See below.
How to Post:
Log on (you must be a registered member to post, registration is free).
Click on the desired forum topic.
Once in the desired forum, click on the blue button that says New Thread. The 'New Thread' button is located at the top left above the thread listings and at the bottom left underneath the thread listings.
This will open a text editor where you may enter a prefix (only in certain forum categories), title, and message information.

Enter the ‘State’ prefix (if required).
Enter your 'Title' in the title box.
Enter your 'text' in the large white ‘message’ box. If including an image then tell us about the image, include the location and month or season taken.
Note: If you would like an image critique, be sure to mention 'Image Critique' or 'C&C' (stands for comments and criticism) in the title or content of your post.

If you are not going to include an image or attachment, click the SUBMIT NEW THREAD button (below the text editor) to finish your post submission.

If you are going to include an image or attachment then continue.

Two methods to display an image.

Both are acceptable and encouraged. Method 2 has size restrictions.

Method 1: - How to display an image via a 'URL link'
(display an image from your photo hosting website)

This method simply links to an image from another website and displays it. It does not actually upload the image to our web server.

Using this method saves space and allows for larger images to be displayed. It also allows for more than one image to be displayed per post (limit of 4 including smilies). More than one image is not suggested for an ‘Image Critique’ because it might be confusing.

Note, you must have some images stored at a photo hosting website for this method to work (a website such as flickr, pbase, shutterbug). You should get the URL address of the particular image file(s) you want to display before continuing.

Click the ‘Insert Image’ button (it's the icon with the mountain and sun) in the text editor toolbar.
Insert the URL address of the desired image file in the text box. For example, an image address from flickr might look like this... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2698/4181565837_97d9364890_o.jpg.
Click the ‘OK’ button and the image should be displayed.
Click the SUBMIT NEW THREAD button (below the text editor) to finish your post submission.
Method 1 Example:

In this example we will link an image to a forum post from another photo hosting website. The website could be flickr, pbase, shutterbug... etc. Note these instructions are for a Windows OS.
1. Open the website page that has the photo you want to link to.

2. Then right click the photo and select ‘Properties’.

3. In the window that opens up, select (highlight) the address and do a ‘Ctrl C’ to copy it. (Sometimes the whole address is cut off and you have to scroll all the way to the end to select. In this case the whole address is shown entirely within the window.)

4.Back at the WildlifeSouth.net forum click the ‘Insert Image’ button.

5. Click in the text box and paste the address into the text box using ‘Ctrl V’.

6. Click OK, then click the Submit New Thread button.

Method 2: - How to display an image via an 'uploaded attachment'
(upload an image from your computer to display)

Click the 'Attachments' button (it's the paper clip icon) in the text editor toolbar.
Click on BROWSE next to the ‘Upload File from your Computer’ text box and navigate to the file on your workstation that you want to post. (Or you can enter a URL to the document or image in the second text box called ‘Upload File from a URL’.)
Realize that the following limits apply to attachments to conserve server space.

Attachment file size must be less than 350kb.
Longest edge of the image file cannot exceed 1024 pixels.
Limit of 4 attachments per post.
If either of the size requirements are exceeded for an image file, the forum software will attempt to resize your image to within the limits. This normally results in a loss of detail. Your images will look best if you resize them first to within the above specifications before uploading.

If uploading a file from your computer, select the image you wish to upload then click the OPEN button.
When you click OPEN, you will see the location of your image show up in the white box next to the word BROWSE.
Click on the UPLOAD button to the right of the BROWSE button.
Wait until you see your file show up in the ATTACH FILES box, then click the ‘Close this Window’ link at the top right.
Click the SUBMIT NEW THREAD button (below the text editor) to finish your post submission.
Method 2 Example:
1. Click the Attachments button in the text editor (it's the one that looks like a paper clip)

2. In the new window that comes up, click the Browse button.

5. Click the Upload button.

Method 2 Addendum:

Positioning attached images.

The default way of displaying attached (uploaded) images is at the bottom of your post in the 'Attached Images' area.

There is a way to position your images in your post once you have uploaded them. (See the next reply on how to do that)

These two attached images have been uploaded and display in the default mode.

Click the Paperclip icon in your editor.
Select the image name in the dropdown.

Notice how the above image (of the paperclip) is positioned where my cursor was (after the 3rd list item)... as opposed to being displayed at the bottom of the page in the 'Attached Images' area.

Method 2 Addendum Example:

Here are the same two birds that were originally in the 'Attached Images' area at the bottom of the post. Now they have been repositioned where I want them to go.

A bunch of text about my 1st photo. This Whooping Crane is on the ground. This Whooping Crane is on the ground. This Whooping Crane is on the ground. This Whooping Crane is on the ground.
