One of my favorite non-orchid species in the Green Swamp. It's actually a little startling to see this lipstick-colored flower in the middle of the green wire grass. Tried to strike that balance between DOF and isolating the plant with a clean background...

I think you isolated the flower wonderfully with only the tips of a few petals out of focus. You hit a good inbetween, the background is blurred nicely and the center of the flower and almost all of the petal parts are in focus.
Beautiful plant.
I will readily admit I don't know my wildlflowers worth a darn. Can you give the common name for this species so I will not feel so dumb?

I agree, a great looking flower and great job with the DOF. You have so many images from the Green Swamp, I would love to go there.
The common name for this one would be Rose-gentian, according to Richard Porcher. The green "branch" below the flower [linear bract] is the distinguishing feature that helps in the ID.

Yea, sorry about that! Marsh Pink or Pinewoods Rose Pink are the common names. They are actually two different plants but look so similar, the names get used interchangably.
I'm not good at the names either and just call them all "Sabatia". Can't go wrong that way!:D

Rose gentian could be another name for it too! The plant that I'm familiar with that is call Rose gentian is related but actually white. Go figure..
Here's a close-up of the white one...
