Today I took my 71 year old Dad on the long walk to the Jetties at Huntington Beach State Park. Afterwards we sat for a deer in Orangeburg county. It was a great day.
Here's a purple sandpiper from the Jetties:

I drove from Moncks Corner to HBSP. Dad drove from Moncks Corner to Vance. It's nice to have two parents that are over 70 and still way healthy.
Dad deer hunts, by himself alot, and kills a lot of nice deer.
Mom still bowls over a 200.

Great your parents get around like that. You should hope you got those genes too.
What impresses me most with your post is that you saw a Purple Sandpiper and could identify it. I can not identify those shore birds at all, shorebirds (and sparrows) are tough to me. So I am impressed. I can identify some terns, but the sandpipers are just plain tough, at least to me.
Sounds like a great time with dad.

This is fun - I love the feet just under the water. I'm not really good at identifying those sandpipers, either, btw.
I've looked at this a couple of times - what's really intersting that there is so much texture and stuff going on with vegetation on that rock, the barnacles and what's just below the water that I think it could have also worked without the bird.
Nice find. Even better that you could share it with your Dad.

Very nice capture, sounds like a perfect day. I've yet to come across these birds but I keep looking.

They are always on the southern jetties at Huntington Beach State Park, in winter at least.

Normally I don't like looking down on a bird, but in this case it works very well. Thanks for sharing.
