I'm not really big into shooting scenery, though I did a lot of it for my OuterBanksGuidebook.com site. It was always meant for general purpose web site information as opposed to any sort of serious artistic photography, so other than finding a good angle to shoot from, I didn't put a lot of effort into the technical end of it. This is the boathouse at the Whalehead Club in Corolla, with the Currituck Beach Light in the background. I shot this location many times, and always had trouble with the pink boathouse blowing out against the darker trees and lighthouse. These were shot with a 5D classic and 24-105 L IS. Late afternoon light was the only light to use as these faced west. I've never been real happy with any of my shots, but these are among the better ones. I must assume shooting RAW would improve control, but these are JPEG. Anyway, thought I'd throw these two out there from a couple of years ago for C&C. I got my catcher's mask on, so come out swinging. Have at it.

Crap. I've got to do something about that $1500 30" monitor at work. These looked fine on it, but at home the blue is too reddish.

I like them both but wish they were a bit sharper. I like the first especially and how the leaves frame the scene.
F8 is quite a bit shallow for a scene like this. F16 would have been better.
Color-wise, you have a little magenta JPEG compression contamination. Color crossover,,,,,,,,,

I think these two images are just fine Fred. I agree with Jim the first image with the vegetation framing the subject is neat. I also like the angle and how the boardwalk/dock comes into the picture starting from the bottom left corner. The second image has a fun reflection but I'm kind of partial to that first image. I don't see anything to nit pick about from a composition standpoint, you did excellent.
