I guess I'm warbler lucky. My family and I were aboard the Disney Wonder for our "day at sea" after a day at Disney's private Island and a day at Nassau.

It was near evening and I noticed a bird near one of the stacks. Keep in mind we were in the shipping channel 60ish miles off of the coast of Florida. I noticed another, then another. I ran to the room and got the camera. Here's the species I found on the boat. (I did have a few odd looks running around with a telephoto lens).

Black-throated blue warber:

A birder friend of mine always says, "The bird are where you find them."

Never has she been more right.

Joe, Have or had you ever shot any of those Warblers before?

What makes this so fun is that you saw these guys out at sea. I mean while a cruise ship is big, it is small for an island... and a ship is not stationary. Not something these song birds would purposely add to their migration agenda.

These guys must have been real glad to have found something to land on where they could rest.

I find this post and story amazing. Nice detail on the Black-throated Blue and the American Restart RH. Great story. Still can't believe you saw these birds on a cruise ship

I've got some Prairie Warbers and a couple of Black-throated Blues. I have never been able to get an American Redstart.

Cool story. Great to find such a variety - even better that it was on a cruise ship. Now that's a fun day at sea!

Great series of shots. For many Warblers in migration boats are are literally lifesavers. I've heard that there are beaches along the northern Gulf of Mexico that are scattered with exhausted Warblers in the spring, too tired to fly any further. Fortunately most recover to go on.

Thanks for sharing these along with your story.

I had seen these from Rubberhead before and I immediately thought of you when I first saw these before. It turned out to be a "small world" conversation with Rubberhead b/c that's when I found out that you two knew each other.
