Got out to the mud flats an hour or two before high-tide. That's usually a good time for finding a few horses still out feeding on the flats. Instead of the entire herd being bunched up as they have been through the summer, the separate harems are spread out around the reserve a bit at the moment. As such I found a second group later on in the morning in a different location. Here's some shots from the paddle. As usual Canon 40D, Sigma 50-500mm, hand-held from the kayak.

I enjoy the portrait silhouette and the last "horse on the hill" image. The second image with the three Ibis is fun too. The portrait silhouette is definitely my favorite of the three I mentioned.

Thanks much Don. I learn more about these animals and their environment everytime I visit them. I still have much to learn

Thanks Jim. The birds are a nice bonus. I have a shot of one coming in for a landing in front of the horse. Unfortunately it blocks the horse's face which kind of ruins it for me.

Hey Joe. This is the first time I've seen a horse on top of that big dune. Honestly, I've long thought that'd make for a cool shot if I could ever catch one up there. I got lucky that morning. I really like that shot and all the negative space in it. It gives the place a feeling of being spaceous which it really isn't. I wish I'd done a few more of the silhouette. I like it a lot too. Thanks much for your kind words.

A nice series here, Bob. Love the low angle, and the light provides a moodiness that makes these calming and wistful. Nicely done.

Pretty cool. I like the ones with the reflection in the water. Just adds to it I think.
