A little trip to the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve this morning. A short paddle across Taylor's Creek and on foot from there. Canon 40D, 50-500mm, tripod.

First shot in this group was taken with a lens I'd forgotten I had - a Tokina 400mm f/5.6. I need to try it out where the subject isn't back-lit to decide what I think about it. The rest were shot with the Sigma 50-500mm.

The backlit mane and hair on the subject is kind of neat on #6, though I'm not sure about the blown out water and the washed out background. But if you corrected for those, I bet you would lose the cool backlit highlights on the subject. I guess you have to make a decision about which direction you want to go with the photograph and accept the unwanted consequences. Of course others may like how the high-key water and background looks, it's really a matter or style and taste.

After #6, I believe I like #2 next, probably because the subject is moving ... and moving toward you at that.
