He's seen better, I'm sure. This old fella was foraging after a pretty decent rain and as I passed by he stuck out like a sore thumb against the background. And of course, true to my nature, it's a bit on the "contasty" side. "Contrasty"....I'm going to lobby wikipedia and webster's to make that a real word. :D

I think the white horse and dark background look good together. It's very moody as you probably intended.

Normally I like photos to have the subjects walking/flying/facing into the frame. Your's has the horse close to the edge and facing out of the frame. But in this case it can work. By having the subject facing out of the frame it implies the horse is on it's last days... as though the next photo would not have the horse in it.

Neat photograph. I think you potrayed the mood wonderfully with your 'contrasty' work.:)

It wouldn't be an Idle image if it wasn't contrasty! I agree with Joe, it works. The white on almost black bg works well.

Wow.....thanks! One thing that drives me insane is when people say "it should have been" when referring to the subjective content of a photograph. You managed to not only describe this photograph perfectly, but you managed to speak of your own subjective take on an image that was created SPECIFICALLY for the reasons you state. Humbled, my friend...humbled!

I like it as well, for me the "lean" look tells the story of how rough a life it is to live in less than perfect conditions as a wild horse on the sparse NC coast.
