Been try for many years to get one of these cats
Well last Saturday was the day it all happened, we had got about 6"of snow and a perfect day to find fresh tracks.
well we found a big male sitting on the powers line and got out to call it in and found another one closer but they had other ideas being the mating season is on now
well we went further into the woods and came across alot of tracks around the rock cliffs and decided to call from that location. About 6 min into calling here come this cat,
She came in to about 20 yards and stopped
Bang
You guessed it I missed
And she just sat there looking, but the second shot was right on its mark
She weighed 20 lbs
I was so pumped and shaking my buddy with me just laughed

Wow, congrats. Very cool. I've got to ask you for some tips. I've been trying to see and hopefully get a picture of a bobcat for years. Of course I'm talking about a live one, but regardless the same tips for hunting would apply to photography too.
What kind of call did you use? Is there a certain season for mating or do the cats mate throughout the year? Is there a particular environment that would be better than another? Is there a certain season that would be better than another?
Again congratulations! ... and sorry for so many questions. :-)

joe,
i used a fox pro hunter call
i used the mature distressed cottontail
are mating season in PA is now through feb.
as far as enviroment i've heard swampy land which thats where alot of guys run there dogs,
i called mine in in thick saplings with bye berry bushes and lots of big rocks and cliffs.
if you get snow around your area that's the best way to see if there around or check the mud for tracks
good luck

Thanks for the information! I'll definitely need luck if I'm ever going to photograph one. Unlike you, I don't have any kind of hunter prowess (in other words I don't have a clue), that's why I ask all kinds of questions. My chances of seeing one is far below your chances, and sounds like you've been trying for a while. I'll take any info I can get about their habitat and where folks get their kills.
Believe it or not, I do have a fox pro hunting call ... it's wireless, I bought it about 5 years ago so it's an older one.
I got to tell ya the fur on your specimen looks beautiful. I didn't realize they were that handsome.

im pretty sure you can upload sounds on that older call as long as there is a sd card with it.

I opened mine up, it's a foxpro scorpion. I didn't see an sd card inside, but I know it has some built in memory because I have uploaded sounds to it before.
It comes with a wide variety of distressed rabbit sounds. I tried it some in Florida but didn't have much success. Of course I didn't know what I was doing either. You have to be in the right environment and near the cats for it to work. I just randomly picked a spot and started playing the call. Like I said ... I am clueless on the whole bobcat thing.

Years ago I had one come within inches of using me for a scratching post as it hauled butt out of the tree I was leaning against. I saw a couple kittens near here three or four years ago. I'm with Joe in that I'd love to photograph one.
