Anyone been to Alaska for the bears?

I'm doing some CPE in Montana September 19-23. I've always wanted to head to Alaska and photograph the bears. Since work is paying for the flight to Montana, I'd only have to pick up about half of what it would cost me to go at another time to get out there.

Any of you ever been out there in mid-September? Have a guide/outfitter you'd recommend? Probably be a 2-3 day trip, so nothing too extravagant.

I did a day bear trip out of Homer last year. I went with Bald Mt Air. I had a blast and they did a great job finding the bears.

Randy, Did you feel like 1 day was enough or wished you had done a couple?

That is a question that really does not have a definative answer. Is one day ever enough? Anywhere? I had perfect weather and seen about 15 different bears and cubs. Could I have stayed for several days. Yes, in a heartbeat.

If the weather was bad and if I saw only one or two bears then the answer is a solid no but I didnt I saw bears and with additional days, I may have seen more bears. One and two day bear trips are pricey and it was tacked on two 11 days in an RV touring so I was limited to one day.


I must say though it was one of the best one day experiences in my life being 10 yds away from a full grown brown bear.

I'm going this July. You are looking at a you're time of the year so you may want more time.
