Pretty much documentary shots, but I couldn't pass it up. This lilies are somewhat rare. They are only found in 2 counties in TN, 7 counties in NC, and 6 counties in VA. TN list them as endangered and NC list them as threatened.
The Gray's Lily grows on high balds and meadows in the southern appalachian area. They bloom in June. This year was a very good year for them on Round Bald at Carver's Gap on the TN/NC border. Apparently this is a flower that poachers like to dig up.
They are somewhat like trout lilies in that the flower faces down... making a frontal shot a little difficult.
