In addition to the woderful time I had this morning with a variety of birds to photograph, I found 21 of our local Banker Horses out on the tidal flats this morning. That represents about 1/2 the herd! Much to my delight a few of them decided to do a water crossing while I was there. One stallion turned and came towards me quite quickly at one point. I presume he was warning me away from his mares.

I really like how the background slowly goes out of focus on the second shot. That is really fun. Starts with the horse in the foreground and the grass below the head which are sharp. Then the photo progresses to the reflection of the horses in the background, the reflection and water ripples are slightly blurred, then the horses in the background are blurred more. Then the water and sand behind the horses in the background are very blurred.
I think that is a neat effect. I think the whole idea works because the main subject is only on one half of the photo, allowing the transition to take place on the other half.

Ill follow Joe on the second image as well and add that the effect makes the best of a "High Key" image......
