It's the "second season" now in the Green Swamp. The late summer orchids are begining to bloom as well as many other plants that can tolerate the heat. Some of the largest of the native orchids bloom this time of year. It can be pretty brutal to photograph this stuff though. It's so humid, there is no way to keep from sweating all over the place. The peaty, moist soil retains heat that you can feel when you get close to the ground. Chiggars, it seems, have an afinity for the heat and sweaty people that get close to the ground!:D Pictures aren't all that great...I was fighting the wind the entire time. Gee, need to head back down there this weekend! Still, there are rewards to kicking around the place...

Cool you did a documentary style photo with your hand in the background. That images shows the flower detail well in addition to letting one get an idea of the size.

There is no doubt that it must be almost intolerable there during midday! Hopefully you are able to stick with the early morning and late evening outinngs. Just imagine those wild orchid lovers in Florida... especially the ones who venture into the Fakahatchee Strand next to the Everglades/Big Cypress Swamp. Not sure a ghost orchid photo would be worth it.

Enjoyed all the images and especially the first with the hand.

Thanks for the comments. Went back and corrected the typos. I can spell the Latin correctly and then screw up the English. Go figure.

Saturday, I'm going back with the intent of being a little more "creative" with the photography.

This one may be a hybrid, I'm not sure. Going to shoot it a little sharper this time!

Wow, that Common Meadow Beauty has wonderful colors! I think you should try a smaller aperture to try to get the same shot, but with all the stamen in focus. That would be my only peeve, yet the photo is good as is. I just think it would be even better with the background yellow stamen in focus. Though with macro flower like this you might have been at the max on the f-stop. I still haven't figured how to do it well yet.
