This is one strange creature, called a Puss Caterpillar. From what I understand they have one heck of a sting, so if you see one do not touch it. The stinging sensation is suppose to be worse than a hornet, which in my experience is pretty bad. The left side is the head end.

It reminded me of one of my favorite old TV shows.

C&C welcomed.

One of the strangest little critters I have ever seen. They look so cute I can see why one would be tempted to pickup it up.

From a comments and criticism standpoint.. I think you captured this just fine. The framing, while centered works. The detail of the fur/hair/fuzz is very good.

I do wonder what it would have looked like if you could have gotten an angle looking across the leaf instead of down at it. I think the background would have been blurred more.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is fine as it is.

The background was my house, using the leaf was my only option for a dark BKG. I did get some shots a little lower from the front end with a blurred view looking down the street.

I'm having trouble seeing a catchlight in the eye...:D

Remarkable creature! I wonder if a polarizer would have helped remove some of the glare and saturate the leaf a little? Just a thought...

That's amazing! I would have bet it was deer hide placed on the leave. This is found in South Carolina?

Hi Skip, yup a polarizer would have helped but I was so excited to get the shot I wasn't thinking as clearly as I should.

Yes, I shot it in SC but it may have hitched a ride on a trailer from Texas. According to the internet, they are here in SC as well.

This is too cute and I am so glad that I got to see it! If you had not posted it here, I would have never known these things exist. I can't decide whether it looks more like a fake mustache or Cousin It.
